Stalking Jack the Ripper Book Review & History at a Glance

Image
True crime does not interest me. The history, mystery and psychology behind Jack the Ripper are what intrigue me. That is why I thought I'd read Stalking Jack the Ripper  by Kerri Maniscalco. It is an exception to the rule (don't tell Holmes lol).  Trigger warning for readers : Stalking Jack the Ripper has gory scenes pertaining to blood, surgical procedures and bodily descriptions. This blog post doesn't go too much in-depth about that and the images do not indulge in those themes. Show your  support for books and reading . --Spoilers-- Summary Audrey Rose Wadsworth is a teenager in 1888 London and the daughter of Lord Wadsworth. Since the death of her mother who did not survive an organ transplant, Audrey has pursued forensic science with a passion, learning all she can from her Uncle against her father's and society's wishes. Discovering Secrets of the Chocolate House: A Book Review

Image
I jumped back into the Found Things series. Like Xanthe and her singing antiques, Book 2: Secrets of the Chocolate House by Paula Brackston has been sitting on a pile of books, calling my name for a few months now. It was so nice getting back into it. I listened to Adrian von Ziegler's "Resting by the Fire" as I had done when reading Book 1: The Little Shop of Found Things and it was like returning home! The writing has the same magic.  You Should Read  Secrets of the Chocolate House  if... You love antiques.  You enjoy meeting old friends again for a new adventure. You want to be spirited away through time. You are intrigued by the paranormal. You want to know more about Xanthe's power. Want a short and spoiler-free version? Book Review: The Lost Treasure of Casa Loma Isn't Really Lost

Image
As a kid, I read some of the books that are part of Eric Wilson's Canadian mystery series featuring Tom and Liz Austen. There are only 20 books, and I have only recently continued to collect them. The series brings back a lot of memories for me, as it appealed to me because I love the classic Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series. I also found it cool that it's a Canadian series. At the time, I hadn't come across too many kids' books that mentioned parts of Canada.  You Should Read  The Lost Treasure of Casa Loma  if... You love whodunnits You enjoy learning about Canadian cities You prefer fast reads Want a short, spoiler-free review? Check out my review on Reedsy Discovery! Summary  Sir Nigel Brampton, owner of Casa Loma disappears, and his only relative is called to Toronto to inherit the castle in case Sir Nigel can't be found. His relative is Henry, uncle to mystery-solving siblings Tom and Liz Austen. They discover that, shortly before his disappearance, Sir Nig...

Finding Myself in The Little Shop of Found Things: A Book Review

Image
Since the troubling news I had received of late in the ASMR community, I threw myself into my artistic projects, one of which was this book review. The book was one I started back in September; it had been calling my name ever since I left it unfinished. At the time, I read half of the first chapter, but it felt depressing. It turns out that now was the right time to read it, and I listened to Adrien von Ziegler's haunting Celtic fantasy composition of Resting by the Fire . It complemented the story perfectly for me. You Should Read The Little Shop of Found Things if... You love antiques  You enjoy the new-in-town theme You want to be spirited away through time You are intrigued by the paranormal Want a short and spoiler-free version? Check out my review on Reedsy Discovery.  Summary  The Little Shop of Found Things by Paula Brackston is a historical fiction and fantasy novel that tells the story of Xanthe Westlake and her mother arriving in Marlborough, Wiltshire to s...
