Holiday Film

A perfect film to watch over the holidays is coincidentally called "The Holiday" starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Jude Law.  Directed by Nancy Meyers, "The Holiday" tells the story of two woman, Iris (Winslet) and Amanda (Diaz) who are unlucky in love and for the holidays switch houses for a much needed vacation.

When Amanda is in Surrey, England,  she meets and falls in love with Iris's brother, Graham, (Law).  But Graham seems to be quite the lady's man with so many girls calling his cell phone.  While staying at Amanda's mansion in California, she meets Miles (Black) who already has a girlfriend and Iris's old boyfriend, (who is engaged to someone else), stays in contact with Iris even though she asked him not to.  He broke her heart yet he says that he needs Iris.  What does he need her for?

This film is comedic, (how could it not be with Jack Black?), has a little mystery and magic, but it also deals with real-life issues such as love, old age, long-distance relationships and complicated relationships.  I enjoyed it immensely.  In short, after I watch the film, there is no other one that lives up to its standard.  It has that je-ne-sais-quoi.  Watch it and you'll see what I mean.
